Standards Comparing BMI standards in Korea, Japan, and the WHOwith standard weight formulas

The same BMI is classified differently by country

Korea and Japan consider that the risk of metabolic disease rises earlier at the same BMI, so they use 25, lower than the WHO, as the obesity threshold. That is why a BMI of 27 is obese in Korea and Japan but overweight by WHO standards.

BMI (body mass index) Weight (kg) ÷ height (m)² Height 170 cm · weight 72 kg → 72 ÷ (1.7 × 1.7) = 24.9
Standard weight Height (m)² × 22 Based on a BMI of 22, considered to be associated with the least illness. Height 170 cm → 1.7 × 1.7 × 22 = 63.6 kg
Obesity index Actual weight ÷ standard weight × 100 The closer to 100%, the closer to standard weight. Height 170 cm · 72 kg → 72 ÷ 63.6 × 100 ≒ 113%

BMI uses only height and weight, so it cannot distinguish people with a lot of muscle or those whose body fat is concentrated around the belly. It is also hard to apply as is during pregnancy or growth. Waist circumference, body composition, blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipid levels need to be considered together, and categories are determined using the value before rounding. This table is for reference only and does not replace a diagnosis.

Weight management that looks afteryour health as a whole

We don't look at weight alone. We check your metabolic status, nutrition, and autonomic nervous system together and then make a care plan.

  • After consultation, GLP-1–class treatment if needed · individualized dose adjustment
  • A care plan informed by functional medicine tests
  • Checking weight and metabolic health together
  • One-on-one care · regular progress checks
  • Nutritional assessment and supplementation advice when needed

All treatment is decided after a doctor's consultation, and side effects can occur.

GLP-1 Weight Management Care

Through a consultation, we check your current condition and decide together, first of all, whether treatment is needed.

GLP-1–class treatment can help with appetite control and metabolic improvement.

Whether to prescribe, and which drug and dose, are decided by the doctor after a consultation.

This page does not describe or recommend any specific medicine. For information about prescription medicines, please ask the doctor during your consultation.

Our approach

DANA's integrated approach

We check your metabolic status with functional medicine tests, and if anything is lacking, we manage it together through nutrition counseling.

  • Care and follow-up by the director
  • A care plan informed by functional medicine blood tests
  • Nutritional assessment and supplementation advice when needed
  • Autonomic testing (HRV) referred to when needed

One-on-one care with the director

From consultation to follow-up,
the director handles your care personally

metabolic health

Along with your weight, your
metabolic health is checked too

We check and manage loss of muscle mass, nutritional deficiencies, and discomfort that can occur during treatment.

  • Reference to metabolism-related tests such as the organic acid test (OAT)
  • Checking vitamin D, zinc, and magnesium status
  • Checking gut health and discussing treatment if needed
  • Nutrition and exercise advice to maintain muscle mass

Informed by functional medicine tests

With blood tests, HRV, and organic acid testing,
we check your metabolic status

Program

About the annual management program

A structure for continuing consultations and progress checks at regular intervals.

01

Monthly one-on-one visits with the doctor

Includes dose adjustment and discomfort management.

02

Progress checks such as body composition and blood tests

Performed when judged clinically necessary.

03

Diet, nutrition, and exercise advice

We adjust lifestyle habits together.

Joining the program does not guarantee a prescription, and medication costs are separate. Details are explained at your visit.

Side Effects Clinic

During GLP-1 treatment Managing discomfort Care

We manage discomfort that can occur during treatment by drawing on both ENT care and functional medicine tests.
Patients prescribed at other clinics can also receive care for discomfort only.

Digestive

Nausea · Vomiting

Relatively common early on. Managed with dose adjustment, dietary guidance, and, when needed, medication for the digestive tract.

Digestive

Constipation

Can occur as bowel movements slow down. When needed, we refer to tests and advise on magnesium, fiber, and fluid intake.

Digestive

Diarrhea · Bloating

Can be related to changes in the gut environment. When needed, we identify the cause with tests and decide on a management approach.

Digestive

Gastroesophageal reflux

Can occur as stomach emptying slows. We consider an ENT examination together with digestive medication.

Nutrition · Muscle

Headache · Fatigue

Can be related to dehydration or electrolyte and nutritional deficiencies. We check the cause and advise on fluid and nutrient replacement when needed.

Nutrition · Muscle

Loss of muscle mass

Can accompany rapid weight loss. Protein and amino acid supplementation and exercise advice may help.

Nutrition · Muscle

Hair loss

Can be related to nutritional status. We check zinc, biotin, iron, and other levels and advise accordingly.

Rare but important

Gallstones · Pancreatitis

Rare but require attention. We check your progress regularly; if you have symptoms, seek care right away.

Digestive

Delayed stomach emptying

Digestion can slow, causing fullness or abdominal discomfort. We advise on dietary adjustments and dose adjustment.

Circulation · Metabolism

Dizziness · Orthostatic hypotension

Can be related to autonomic changes or dehydration. When needed, we refer to autonomic testing (HRV).

Circulation · Metabolism

Low blood sugar

Care is needed if you also use diabetes medication. We check your blood sugar and advise on medication adjustments.

Nutrition · Muscle

Facial changes from rapid weight loss

Can appear when weight is lost quickly. Adjusting the pace of weight loss and nutrition advice may help.

How we manage discomfort

Because of its pharmacological properties, GLP-1–class treatment can be accompanied by discomfort. We identify and manage the cause by drawing on both ENT care and functional medicine tests.

  • We start at a low dose and adjust slowly
  • We check hydration, electrolytes, and nutritional status and advise on supplementation when needed
  • When needed, we identify the cause with tests (SIBO · OAT · HRV)
  • We advise on supplementation such as magnesium, amino acids, and vitamins
  • Reflux and dizziness are checked together with ENT care
  • Patients prescribed at other clinics can also receive care for discomfort only

If you experience discomfort during treatment, please come in for a consultation.

FAQ

Frequently asked
questions

If you have more questions, please feel free to call us or book a visit.

0507-1384-5075
Why does an ENT clinic offer weight management?
DANA is an ENT clinic that also practices functional medicine. Because obesity is a metabolic problem, we look at weight and metabolic health together, referring to functional medicine tests (OAT, HRV, SIBO, and others).
How is discomfort during treatment managed?
We start at a low dose and adjust slowly, and when needed we check your nutritional status and discuss supplementation. If discomfort persists, we decide at a consultation whether to adjust the dose or change the treatment approach.
Is it covered by insurance?
Prescriptions for weight loss are not covered by Korean National Health Insurance. If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, coverage may apply depending on the drug and your condition, so please consult your diabetes doctor. Functional medicine tests and IV drips are not covered, and we will explain the costs in advance at your visit.
How do I sign up for the management program?
At your first visit, we explain the program's components and refund policy in writing.
What should I prepare before my visit?
Telling us your current medications, previous test results, and how your weight has changed helps the visit. Filling out the pre-visit questionnaire in advance shortens your consultation time.
